FAISALABAD: HOW DID THE MOTHER FIND HER DAUGHTER'S ALLEGED KILLER HUSBAND AFTER 15 YEARS?

Description:

The origin of this story was about 15 years ago in the 'Bole Di Jhagi' area of Faisalabad, Punjab province when Tabsum was only 16 years old. Tabsum's father was a mosque imam and performed the duties of imam in a mosque near the house. Tabsum was very fond of studies and that is why her parents hired Muhammad Siddiq, who teaches in a private school near the house, as a home tutor to help Tabsum in her studies.

Siddiq used to come to teach Tabsam in the sitting room of the house every evening. According to Tabsum's mother Hafeezan Bibi, no one bothered Tabsum during her studies so that she could prepare well for the exams. She says that one day after sunset, she realized that the sitting room of the house was empty and Tabsam was not around.

The family reached Siddique's house, which was located near the house, but the door was already locked. On asking the neighbours, it was found that they had left the house. Tabsum's parents had also come to know by this time that even Tabsum's essentials were not present at home and soon they came to know that Tabsum had left the house with her teacher Siddiq. Tabsum's mother says that the family tried hard to find Tabsum but could not be found.

Siddique later told Tabsum's family through telephonic communication that he had married Tabsum and that they were living happily ever after. Tabsum's mother said that Tabsum's father was saddened by his daughter's leaving home, but due to the fear of the people of the neighborhood and relatives, he kept quiet about the matter and cut ties with his daughter.

She says that her husband did not even file a police report for fear of 'infamy' and Tabasam's father died of a sudden heart attack a few months after the incident. The mother says that she did not contact Tabsum for 10 years after the incident, but during that time not a single day passes when the memory of Tabsum does not haunt me. His face was spinning in front of his eyes. Every day I longed to catch a glimpse of my daughter. Many times I used to see Tabsum's face in my dreams and I remember the time when Siddique was hired as a home tutor to tutor Tabsum.

Hafeezan Bibi says that she used to have very strange thoughts about her daughter and sometimes she felt that Tabsum was calling her. Kalija would have cried in this grief. In order to avoid disgrace, she could not even explain her pain to anyone. In this way, time continued to pass and Hafeezan Bibi's hair became silver due to her daughter's grief.

After 10 years of this incident, on the insistence of her husband, Tabsum's elder sister contacted Siddique on telephone, in which Siddique told that he was living in Chowhang area of Lahore. This news also reached Tabsam's mother and she was relieved that her daughter was fine, but she was still sad about the incident, but after so much time had passed, when the family members wanted to talk to Tabsam.

So Siddiq refused to meet him on the pretext of illness. Time passed and Siddique kept making excuses. Then suddenly Siddiq's mobile number was switched off and all the ways to reach him were also blocked.

Hafeezan Bibi says that this situation awakened the whispers in her heart because this dream and thought often bothered her that her daughter was in trouble, but when she tried to talk to her daughter despite constant efforts. If they could not do it, they were sure that there was something wrong. She says that in January 2022, she along with her elder daughter and son-in-law reached Chohang area of Lahore in search of Tabsum, which was the same place where Siddique had last contacted her and told her that he was staying in that area.

There, the local people told him that Siddique has been living in Sanda area of Lahore for a long time, where he teaches children in a school and also runs a homeopathic clinic. Tabsum's mother along with her daughter and son-in-law reached the given address and started looking for Siddique but there was no trace of Siddique.

According to Hafeezan Bibi, the failure to find Siddique strengthened his suspicion that there must be something wrong, but on the other hand, the problem was that he had no identity and no shelter in Lahore. According to him, he found a solution to this problem by starting to work in people's homes in the same area, which would also make arrangements to stay in the area and get news of his daughter.

Thus, in Choburji area, he started working in people's houses. According to him, during the day she would wash people's dishes, clothes and floors and in the evening she would go out in search of her daughter and four months passed like this.

Similarly, one day, while looking for his daughter, he reached a secondary school in Chaubarji where Muhammad Siddique was teaching children. According to the FIR registered in this case, Hafeezan told the police that as soon as he reached Siddique, he was surprised to see him, but his face showed signs of anxiety and worry and smiled.

Muhammad Siddique continued to make excuses and suddenly ran away while talking. This sudden situation pulled the ground from under Hafeezan Bibi's feet and she became convinced that something bad had happened to her daughter. She immediately reached Sanda police station near Chaubarji where she told SHO Sanda Adeel Saeed about the disappearance of her daughter and Muhammad Siddiq and appealed to him for help.

The mother provided pictures of Siddique to the police and demanded to find him. Soon the police were able to find Siddique.

DISCLOSURE OF THE MURDER OF THE ACCUSED

In this regard, SHO Sanda Adeel Saeed, when contacted, said that when the accused Muhammad Siddique was interrogated during the detention, initially he made excuses and told different stories, but after a short investigation, the accused said that He killed Tabsam 15 years ago. According to the police officials, Mohammad Siddiq told that he had married Tabsam for the second time in 2007 and before that he had divorced his first wife with whom he had two children. According to police officials, Siddique told that he had driven away Tabsam and brought her to Lahore along with her children.

The accused said that because of the children there used to be quarrels every day and during this time Tabsam would ask to take the children out of the house. It was only five months after his marriage to Tabsum that one night there was an argument between the husband and wife and it escalated. Siddiq told the police that during that time he lost his temper and to silence Tabsum, he picked her up. Struck on the cot, meanwhile Siddique squeezed Tabsam's throat and kept shouting "stop the sound, stop the sound".

As soon as Tabsum's voice stopped and Siddique's screams stopped, Tabsum's soul had flown from her body.So police officials claimed that during interrogation, the accused told that with the help of a meat cleaver, he cut Tabsam's body into pieces to hide his murder and dispose of the body. Senior police officer SP Amara Shirazi, who supervised the investigation, said that the accused had admitted during the investigation that he strangled his wife and threw her body into small pieces.

Siddique killed his wife on the third day of Eid al-Adha in 2007 and dismembered the body and threw it on the sacrificial animal's altar so that no one would suspect, and some of the pieces were washed away in a drain. After this incident, the accused got married for the third time and was hiding in Sanda area of Lahore. SP Amara Shirazi said that Tabsum's family did not file a police report about her running away from home, missing, or being kidnapped, so no legal action was taken by the police to find Tabsum.

The preliminary investigation phase has been completed by recording the statement of the accused, while after initial physical remand, he was presented before the magistrate and his statement was recorded under Section 164 and later he was transferred to Camp Jail on judicial remand. According to In-charge Investigation Hasan Raza, along with the statement of the accused, the challan of this case has also been submitted. On the other hand, after being physically and judicially remanded, no lawyer has appeared on behalf of the accused and no bail application has been filed.

After the receipt of the challan, during the proceedings of the case in the court, there is a possibility that the public prosecutor will appear on behalf of the accused, while the preliminary proceedings of the case will be held in the session court of Lahore. According to legal experts, if the challan is prepared along with the evidence, body and murder instrument recovered from the scene of the crime and the confession of the accused, then the circumstances and events and the possibility of getting a harsh punishment on the basis of the confession of the accused in the court becomes clear.

But in the Tabsum murder case, there is a confession of the accused in police custody, but there is no murder as an instrument of murder, nor is there any hope of finding the remains of the body. If the accused deviates from his statement at any stage, the case is likely to go on for years, the decisions of which will eventually come out in the form of acquittal of the accused.

Lawyer Advocate Asad Abbas Butt says that if the police shows seriousness in the investigation of the case and recovers the pieces or bones of Tabsam's body from the places indicated by the accused, along with the DNA report, the accused will be found guilty of murder. Siddique may succeed in getting convicted, but the chances of that process seem slim as evidence is likely to be lost after 15 years. However, on the other hand, Tabasam's mother says that if she had reported her daughter's disappearance to the police in time, her daughter might have been alive today.
